I’ve made a big deal in the past over how Christian Wood benefited mightily from the tutelage of a certain back-to-back MVPer named Giannis Antetokounmpo. Meanwhile, Thon Maker received all those same teachings, and maybe he even internalized them, but his body just doesn’t have the ability to execute scoring moves like Wood’s does. That’s why Wood scored 20 points in 21 minutes last night, while Maker watched the proceedings from the bench that he never left.
However, it appears that Giannis didn’t impart his secrets relating to free-throw shooting on the young and impressionable Wood, because Wood was a nearly perfect 10-for-11 on free throw attempts in this game. Any secrets that Giannis did attempt to bestow upon Wood were rightfully ignored, because Giannis misses free throws in every possible way, while Wood has a consistent form where even the misses look decent.
Can the Pistons just please trade Drummond already? They’re running out of time and I was really looking forward to having a full third of the Piston’s season devoted to having Wood play forty MPG per game.
