Marcus Morris generated some delectable controversy a couple days ago by attempting to initiate a beef with Jae Crowder. Every NBA fan is always up for some 100% Grade A beefage between players, so Morris’ attempt at beef-initiation should have gone smoother than it did. Basically, Morris was giving a customary postgame interview and, in the course of the interview, tried to call Crowder a bitch. Except he knew that he couldn’t just drop the dreaded B-word right there in the interview, so he called Crowder “woman-like” and accused him of having “female tendencies” instead. That generated about 1000% the controversy that just calling Crowder a bitch would have.
There are many sad facets to this sad tale, but these are the two that I’m focusing on here:
Sad facet 1: The controversy surrounding the “woman-like” comment totally overshadowed the fact that Morris and Crowder were supposed to beefing. Nobody remembers their beef anymore. If Morris had just initiated the beef in a normal way, we could be enjoying a delicious, piled-high serving of BEEF right now. Instead, we’re not enjoying any beef at all. I want some beef but I don’t have any.
Sad facet 2: Morris has talked a big game this season about always playing tough and keeping the Knicks respectable, but he’s the one who was going around calling people “bitches” (or terms adjacent to “bitch”) after his entire team, including himself, totally bitched out against the Grizzlies. Plus, the one who is levying accusations of bitchness at other people is often being a bitch himself.
Bonus happy facet: Morris supplied 28 points in this game and the Knicks won. Not only that, but Morris was basically the single reason the Knicks got the win. Even better, I don’t think Morris has accused anybody on the Pacers of being “woman-like”. Yet. T.J. Leaf better watch his back, though.
