I gave Jevon Carter a lot of flak last season for being one of the least efficient players the league has ever seen. I get that he’s a defensive specialist and brings real value on that side of the ball (not that DownToBuck cares about defense), but he barely shot 30% from the field. He would have been below 30% on the season if he hadn’t randomly gotten hot in the Grizzlies’ final game.
Well, I’m eating my words because Carter has significantly upped his percentages this season. He’s still well below average in terms of efficiency, but his 40% from deep is a pleasant surprise. Yeah, he’s shooting a higher percentage from three than from the field, which isn’t a good sign, but any forward progress is good news for a guy who’s on the outer fringes of the league just trying to hang on. If he can be an average scorer while being a premier point guard defender (which his nuthuggers will assure me he is), then there’s a place for him in the NBA.
By the way, isn’t it nuts that Jevon Carter looks older than Vince Carter, even though one is two decades younger than the other? If you go look up pictures of Jevon from his WVU days, he looks forty years old even then. His hairline just completely betrayed him (hence the shaved look). Meanwhile, I don’t know what happened to VC’s hairline, if anything. He’s been rocking the shaved look since his Nets days at least.
