The chemistry between Zion Williamson and Lonzo Ball (a tandem which I have, perhaps unwisely, dubbed “Lonzion”) is progressing nicely. These are two of the most hyped-up high-school prospects in recent memory, and they’re on the same team! The Pelicans just lost Anthony Davis, but they’re remaining relevant in the eyes of casual fans by having a trio of exciting young players (can’t forget about Brandon Ingram now) who could, in the future, form the basis of a championship core.
All that attention from casual fans is great for a Pelicans team that hasn’t always had the strongest support from its hometown, but it’s not great for me, because my disdain for casuals is sky-high and only getting higher. The average viewer of this video doesn’t even know who E’Twaun Moore is, and, even worse, they don’t CARE that they don’t know. Isn’t that the most perverse thing ever? It’s completely against the DTB ethos. Role-players are to be celebrated, not forgotten.
I suppose I should count my blessings. If Zion, Ball, and Ingram were on…shudder…the Lakers or another large-market team, the media frenzy would be so unbearable that I would have to preemptively bar Zion from my channel before he even played a single NBA game. In fact, I should probably bar Zion from my channel right now so that I don’t feed into the media frenzy that I claim to despise…
…nah. These view counts are intoxicating. And every casual that watches my videos is another casual who might get tricked into donating to my Patreon.
