If the Hornets don’t watch out, they’re going to end up with a Jeff Foster in Indiana kind of situation.
If you’re a little lost, first of all, we need to get you a map, and second of all, remember that Foster played his entire 13-year career with the Pacers while no one even noticed. He just stuck around on the roster year after year, grabbing rebounds and sometimes scoring while being blindingly white and unskilled. Okay, maybe “unskilled” is being harsh, because rebounding is a skill, but let’s just put it this way: did you ever see Foster in the Skills Challenge over All-Star weekend? Didn’t think so.
That’s what’s going to happen with Cody Zeller in Charlotte. He’s already been there for 7 seasons; 7 more doesn’t seem out of the question. With Kemba Walker gone, he’s basically the face of the franchise unless you want Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to be the face of the franchise (here’s a hint: you don’t). How messed up is that? It’s just Zeller. He’s good, but he’s about the least exciting center in the league. He used to poster people sometimes, but that part of his game seems to have disappeared in favor of… Jokic-esque passing? Dude, no one cares. You’re not Serbian. Just stop.
Once again, Zeller was really good in the first half of this one, and then not so good in the second half as the Hornets turned what maybe could’ve been a win into a loss. One of these games he will put together a full 48 minutes of stellar play and maybe he’ll score 40. Now THAT would be fun. So many layups.
