Kevin “Kevin Huerant” Huerter convincingly beat his previous career-high in shots attempted, which was eighteen, by attempting 21 shots in this game. For a guy who’s not really known as a gunner, that’s a surprisingly large amount of shots. Maybe he had a bet with a teammate that he could shoot it twenty times. Or maybe he’s aiming to reach some stipulated goals in his contract that I’m not aware of. Or maybe he was just feeling super hot in pregame shootaround and decided to see if it would continue in-game.
I will say that scoring 23 points on 21 shots is getting into dangerous territory when it comes to (in)efficiency. The closer your FG-to-FGA ratio gets to 1, the worse you’re doing, and if the ratio ever gets negative, that means that the spirit of Jordan Crawford has permanently inhabited your body and that you should see an exorcist at your earliest convenience. Huerter isn’t yet possessed by the spirit of the inferior, but just as chuckery, Crawford, but if he keeps this up, he could be.
Will he keep up this newfound aggression, though? My guess is no. He’ll go back to shooting twelve shots a game, and the game where he said “screw you Trae, screw you John, I’m the first option now” will fade in our collective memories until it seems nothing more than a feverish hallucination.
