Man, the Grizzlies sure are winning a lot of games lately, aren’t they? I don’t think I realized how good they were doing, but with this win, they have crawled back to over .500 and are currently the 8th seed in the West. Haters may criticize their current strategy which will only lead to a brutal beatdown to the Lakers in the first round, but haters need to consider this before indiscriminately hating: sometimes it’s good for young teams to just win some god-damn games instead of losing all the time and getting sad. Tanking isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be, and I’m enjoying seeing a bunch of young guys go out there and win games while playing with… dare I say… grit?
Grit n’ Grind is back, people. Andre Iguodala would’ve fit in really well if he didn’t get such a big head over being a role-player on a bunch of championship teams.
One big reason that the ‘Zlies are so good is that Brandon Clarke has come in and been good immediately. He’s not outplaying Jaren Jackson Jr. anymore, but that’s only because JJJ stopped sucking and started being good as well. Clarke doesn’t have the same pedigree, but he gets it done. He’s still doing that thing where it seems like he never misses a shot, and the stats bear that out: he is one of the most efficient players in the league.
And it’s not like he’s just dunking it all the time while not even looking at the rim when he’s not in the paint. He can shoot threes! He couldn’t shoot threes in college (he made a grand total of 6 over three years), but now he can? He didn’t even wait for NBA coaches to get a hold of him before adding it to his game; he just did it himself, probably before all those pre-draft workouts. His field goal percentage would be a lot better if he didn’t take any, though. Just saying, 62 percent from the field is not good enough.
