There has been speculation that Reggie Jackson is exploring the option of asking the Pistons to buy out his contract so that he can go somewhere where the games will actually matter. The Pistons are clearly tanking after giving up Drummond for a poopoo platter of John Henson (poo), Brandon Knight (poo), and a second-round pick (platter), so Detroit is not the place to be if you want to play in meaningful games.
Then again, Jackson is in a contract year. His priority shouldn’t be winning. It should be putting up stats so he can trick a team into giving him a big contract. Detroit is the perfect place to do that since all of a sudden there are, like, fifty possessions per game available that, previously, Drummond had been using. The Pistons are seriously lacking talent now, so Jackson’s not going to be able to statpad his way to 10 APG per game or anything, but the scoring should definitely be there for them if he chooses to stay.
If I’m Jackson, I stay. Free agency will give him the chance to go to whatever team he wants for whatever price he wants for however long he wants. I’m not sure what the rules are when a player gets bought out, but what if, like, the Hornets sign him for a minimum deal and play him six minutes a game behind Devonte’ Graham? Could that even happen? Don’t risk it, man. Just wait it out.
P.S. I say “REVENGE GAME” too often and I’ve probably diluted the concept of a “REVENGE GAME” past the point of no return, but Reggie Jackson legitimately hates the Thunder so this game might have been a well and true REVENGE GAME.
