One of the bad things about good teams is that they often have a sizable stable of young talent that barely gets to play. Sometimes that’s not the case, sometimes the non-playing players are cruddy vets that no one can possibly be hyped about (shame on Lakers fans for even THINKING about getting hyped for Troy Daniels), but a lot of the time it’s a whole bunch of rookies who the fans yearn to see more of.
Such is the case with the Celtics. They’re doing really well this year, on the backs of their young-ish talent, but that talent is stuff we’ve seen before. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, YAWN. Give me some of these dudes I’ve barely even heard of. Boston is absolutely stacked with rookies with crazy names and not much else on their resume. I was freaking out for a bit this game because the Celtics had some horrible (in terms of winning basketball games, not in terms of HYPE) lineup in and I couldn’t figure out who the midget PG was.
That might have seemed like a leadup to introduce Romeo Langford, but the midget PG was actually Tremont Waters.
Okay, so maybe it actually was a leadup to Langford, because here we are talking about him, but what is there even to say about his play tonight? This video says it all. Forget about the points. It’s a career high, but forget about them. His stats prior to tonight’s game don’t indicate that he’s some sort of rim-protecting savant, but the vid doesn’t lie. These weren’t the normal swipe-down blocks of a point guard. He REJECTED these shots.
Anyone else getting Greg Stiemsma Celtics debut vibes? Just me? Okay.
