Terence Davis being a total beast and absolutely 100 percent the next Kawhi Leonard is cool and all, but after that 31-point game he had a couple nights ago, I’m feeling that my hype for him has peaked. It’s all downhill from here, until the point where I resent his very existence and wish he would go to Europe so I don’t have to think about him anymore.
We’re not there yet, not even close, but I am starting to feel that it would be nice of him to let some of the other Raptors rookies have their chance in the spotlight. Just be like “oh, sorry coach, I can’t go tonight, my hammy is tight, why don’t you give Dewan some run, you know we’re going to win anyway”. And then everyone wins. The Raptors win the game because they’re good, Dewan Hernandez wins because he gets to score 12 points, Davis wins because he gets brownie points in the locker room for being a good teammate, and DownToBuck wins because he gets to see a freshly-minted scrub go off in a real NBA game.
Hype for Davis can be restored if he surpasses his 31-point performance at some point. I don’t feel like that is very likely, since the 31 felt like such an out-of-the-blue anomaly, but the last game for the Raptors will be sure to feature some really wonky lineups, assuming that they’re not still fighting for playoff seeds or whatever. There’s a chance that Davis could be the best player on the floor in a game like that and go off for 40 like Grayson Allen.
