When Kelan Martin had nineteen points in the first half of this game, I was fully convinced that all observers were witnessing the rebirth of another K-Mart on the Timberwolves.
I refer, of course, to Timberwolves legend Kevin Martin, who I think scored twenty PPG per game one season for the Wolves. Nobody even remembers that he did that, even though that fact alone probably makes him the fourth or best Timberwolf in franchise history. (off the top of my head: Kevin Garnett, Kevin Love, uh, Wally Sczerbiak, and…Kevin Martin. Then Terrell Brandon. I think. Lots of Kevins there.)
However, dreams of another K-Mart were shattered into a thousand tragic pieces when Martin was only able to muster two points in the entire second half. Not only that, but the points came with three seconds left on a shooting foul that didn’t need to happen except that Torrey Craig thought he could get a highlight-reel chasedown block. Talk about disappointment. I had already bought a full-page ad in the Twin Cities daily newspaper with a big picture of Kevin Martin and an arrow that pointed to a big picture of Kelan Martin. Now that ad isn’t going to make any sense. Luckily, print media is dying so it only cost me a couple thousand bucks to put that add there. Your Patreon donations at work, people.
