The #1 reason I made this highlight video is that I got a really sweet thumbnail image for Harry Giles while I was making the Marquese Chriss highlight video. That’s really it. I had a funny image of Giles’ face after he committed a foul, and I really wanted to use it. It would have been a tragedy for mankind of I was the only one to ever see that face. Well, everybody watching the Warriors’ broadcast saw it, but I’m sure they didn’t immortalize it like I’m doing right now.
However, it turns out that this Harry Giles highlight video is entertaining on its own merits, and not just the merits of the thumbnail image. Giles not only shows some adeptness near the basket, but he once again displays his superior passing skills. Richaun Holmes might have more impact when it comes to scoring the ball, but Giles has plenty of his impact on his own when he’s surveying the floor with the ball in his hands.
I did feel a little bit sad when Doug Christie alleged that Giles was going to get a triple-double. I understand that he was being hyperbolic in jest (he does that often; sometimes it’s funny and other times it’s unbearable), but Giles was not close to a triple-double at all, being six assists and a rebound away. And when Grant Napear said that Giles would eventually get a triple-double in his career, that was also somewhat optimistic. Giles’ career high in assists is six, and it’s REALLY hard to get ten when you’re a big man and you’re not the absolute focal point of an offense (like Jokic or Sabonis or Adebayo).
You know what that means, right?
Giles. Focal point of the offense. Starting tomorrow. Luke Walton, if you don’t do this, I’m firing you myself.
