Rui Hachimura 17 Points Full Highlights (2/26/2020)

I want the Wizards to continue being an all-scoring, no-defense team going forward. That’s not the path to playoff success by any means (cue the fuzzy, but happy, memories of the Wizards owning the Raptors year after year in the playoffs), but it IS the path to having an entertaining-as-heck product to put on the floor for the fans to enjoy. It’s also the path to having every member of the Wizards roster get as many shots as they want.

Think about it. The way the Wizards play right now, everybody gets to shoot as much as they want. If somebody takes a shot that you wanted to take, don’t worry, you’ll get your chance to shoot the ball soon enough. The Wizards’ inflated stats will also make them more attractive to other teams. It’s a mutually beneficial situation where everybody will get larger contracts by virtue of their crazy scoring numbers.

Rui Hachimura is just one of many Wizards players benefiting from their current system. He’s averaging roughly 14 PPG as a rookie, and it seems like he’s got the green light to take any shot that he feels comfortable with. This is the approach that turned Thomas Bryant into a scoring stud big man. It’s the approach that turned Davis Bertans into perhaps the most coveted three-point shooter in the league since Jason Kapono. It’s the approach that allowed Beal to score fifty in back-to-back games. And now it’s the approach that will guide Hachimura on the path to being an elite scorer.

If John Wall ever does come back, and he messes up the ‘Zards perfect situation by insisting that players start playing defense, that will be the most tragic thing ever. They should trade him before he can ruin this perfect system. Never mind the fact that Wall’s contract is untradeable at this point. You’re ruining my narrative here by bringing that up. Stop being so selfish. Stop trying to make everything about you.
