Nobody was really anticipating the P.J. vs P.J. matchup that was happening tonight, but it happened whether or not anybody was anticipating it. P.J. Washington of the Hornets went up against P.J. Tucker of the Rockets while the world watched with disinterest. I don’t think they really went at each other aside from a couple possessions, but it’s presumptive to assume that they would undertake to be the primary defenders of each other just because they share a first name (or first initialism, as it were). The world doesn’t revolve around my flimsy narratives, after all.
In the end, the epic P.J. battle wasn’t even close. Tucker scored three points, while Washington dropped in 22. If you take into account their respective defensive contributions, perhaps the epic P.J. battle becomes more tightly-contested, but I can’t take that into account because DownToBuck doesn’t care about defense. All I care about is buckets, and in the realm of buckets for this game, Washington dominated Tucker from start to finish. Mercilessly dominated. Just total merciless domination.
Sadly, the Hornets have no more contests this year against the Denver Nuggets, or we would get to see some P.J. Washington vs. P.J. Dozier action. Again, I feel like Washington would come away from that head-to-head contest the decisive winner. Maybe we can get P.J. Hairston back in the league and Washington can dominate him too.
