OFFICIAL DTB CONFESSION: I almost added the descriptor of “Thunder Debut” to the title of this video. The only reason I didn’t was because I went to Isaiah Roby’s basketball-reference page to verify some information. It was on that page that I saw that Roby isn’t even a rookie.

I’m just going to pause here to let you recover from that earth-shattering revelation.

It’s true, everybody. Big Shot Roby played three games for the Thunder last season, and while he didn’t score any points in his eleven minutes of game action, points aren’t what determine rookie status. Rookie status is what determines rookie status, and Roby’s rookie status has elapsed. Now he’s on a revamped OKC squad that’s rather bereft of starter-quality talent, so he goes from being a total afterthought to being a starter. After getting a DNP the first two games of the season. Yeah, I’m confused too, but it’s the good kind of confused. The “this team doesn’t give a FRICK about normal standards of roster construction or playing time allotment” kind of confused.

Roby does some cool stuff in this video. He hits a three, earning the nickname “Duncan Robyson”. He crosses over Vucevic and drives for a dunk, earning the nickname “Allen Iveroby”. He got a steal at one point (unshown), earning the nickname “Armed Robyery”. Add the previously-earned “Big Shot Roby” nickname to that list of nicknames, and you’ll see that this young gun is already making a name for himself in the league.
