The last time Monte Morris set a career high, back near the end of 2018-19 season, my senses were so clouded by my #hypedforgaryharris that I almost neglected to make a video for the performance. Can you believe that? My lack of hype for Morris was so profound that I saw that he had scored 22, thought to myself “yeah, that’s pretty good for him”, and then moved on with making tons of vids for way scrubbier performances.
I wasn’t the only one with a lack of hype for that performance, by the way. The view count for that vid cracked the one-thousand mark at some point, which is cool, but for a long time it had an incredibly pathetic amount of views for it being a career high of a player that everyone generally considers to be “pretty good”. We’re talking sub-500. Come on people. Just because I’m too busy being #hypedforgaryharris to be hyped for Morris doesn’t mean that you can all abdicate your duties.
Similarly, I’m not expecting this particular vid to light the world on fire. I hoped, in my state of semi-retirement, that I’d only be making vids that would capture the imagination of the viewing public. But no. My cursed sense of duty to the role-players of the NBA means that even the utterly unexciting (unless you really are into elite assist-to-turnover ratios) players like Morris will get a vid if they manage to notch a career high in points.
I will say that it’s cool that sometimes he just decides to take long two-point jumpers like it’s the early 00’s again. But when long two-point jumpers are the most exciting part of his game, that’s when you know you’ve got a problem.
