I was mentally preparing to write the tale of how Jalen Brunson was welcomed into the Hall of the Thirty Point Scorers by none other than Carlos Delfino, but there was a small fragment of memory residing deep in the furthest, most disused corner of my brain: had Brunson previously scored thirty in his career?
Yes, he had. In his rookie year, Brunson dropped 34 on the Spurs. Ergo, he has already visited the Hall of the Thirty Point Scorers. A return visit to The Hall is not nearly as worthy a tale as the initial visit, fraught as it is with confusion at the Hall’s infinite nature. However, here is a quick outline of how the story would have gone:
-Jalen wakes up lying on a marble floor, staring at a cloudy sky which glows with golden sunlight
-Jalen takes note of the grandiose, cathedral-like architecture
-Jalen wanders around for a bit, pondering the strange characteristics of the realm he now inhabits (including its seemingly infinite nature)
-Carlos Delfino pops out of nowhere and explains to Jalen that he is in the Hall of the Thirty Point Scorers, a magical extra-dimensional locale to which admission is only awarded to NBA players who have scored more than thirty points in a single game
-Carlos goes on to further explain that he never thought he would see Jalen in The Hall, as Jalen is being significantly held down my Luka Doncic
-Luka Doncic, who is a regular visitor to The Hall, walks in and jokes that he should injure himself more often
-Carlos becomes enraged because Luka only scored 27 in his most recent game and therefore “The Overseers” (the unknown entities who monitor Carlos in his duties as being the appointed guardian of The Hall) are going to be majorly pissed off that an interloper is violating the sanctity of The Hall
-Something else funny happens
-Jalen, who has been reluctant to accept that The Hall is a real place, comes to appreciate the deep sense of calm and peacefulness that it provides him, and wishes he could stay there forever.
I didn’t get to write that description, though. Instead, the only thing I can offer is that Luka Doncic should get himself injured more often so Brunson can have more games where he dominates. Also, if Brunson had played in the Bubble, Trey Burke totally wouldn’t be on the team right now taking PG minutes, so that’s sort of ironic. Or something.
