There was a time, in the distant past, where I thought that Dejounte Murray was a better player than Jamal Murray. This was during the 2016-17 season, when they were both rookies, probably around the time when Dejounte scored 24 and Jamal was busy putting up endless single-digit scoring games. Was I right to think such a thing? Probably not, especially when you consider that I likely wasn’t factoring defense into the equation at all, because I never have, and never EVER will, care about defense. Ever. For any reason. The fact that Dejounte was, even at that early stage in his career, a million times better of a defender than Jamal will ever be was an irrelevant point to me.
But such a thing I was a thinking, and I’m pretty sure I’m vindicated right now, because there is a case to be made that Dejounte is ONCE AGAIN a better player than Jamal. Everyone was nuthugging Jamal pretty hard after his sick Bubble performances, but he just doesn’t look the same this year. Nagging injuries perhaps? Doesn’t matter: Dejounte is doing it all right now for the Spurs. With the cupboards of primo All-NBA-esque talent looking a little bare in San Antonio (sorry LaMarcus, you look 45 years old right now), Dejounte (hereafter referred to only as “Murray”, I’m done talking about that worthless scrub Jamal) is making his case for greater media coverage and perhaps an All-Star selection.
Okay, maybe not an All-Star selection. But his numbers are nice. 15 points, 5 assists, 7 rebounds in around 30 minutes per game. He’s already had some triple-doubles, even if they were of the unhighlightable 11-10-11 type, and even though no one cares about triple-doubles anymore since Chucksell Stadpadbrook devalued them into worthlessness, you can’t deny Murray’s all-around prowess. Add in some pretty nice scoring games, 29 earlier this season, and 26 in this one, screw it, make him an All-Star. Who cares. Give Gregg Popovich once last All-Star to add to his resume and he can ride off into the sunset to hang out with Ginobili and Duncan and Parker and someone who is actually a good coach and not just a beneficiary of multiple HOF talents can take his place.
Someone like me. I’ve emailed my resume to all 30 NBA teams and for some reason I haven’t gotten a call back. Not even to say that they received my qualifications. What happened to common courtesy? Any NBA team would be lucky to have me and my encyclopedic knowledge of scrubs.
