Let it be known that DownToBuck actually watched some of this contest between the Thunder and the Rockets, and let it also be known that DownToBuck was surprised and, honestly, dismayed, to find that Kenrich Williams was actually doing a few productive things on the court during that span of time. This is dismaying because Williams is well-known as one of the most “do-nothing” players in the league. He’s like Tony Snell but even less willing to attempt to do anything.
Maybe I need to revise my thinking on this dude, because I just checked the stats, and he’s scoring at a considerably higher clip than he was last season. Last season, get this, he was scoring a whole 5.9 points per 36 for the Pelicans. That’s hilariously low. At that point he must have been purposely turning down shot attempts, or purposely not trying to create separation from any defender who (wrongly) decided that he was worth defending. This season, William’s per-36 scoring is sitting at a career-best 11.7. That’s not very good, but it’s roughly twice what he was producing last season. If he keeps up this doubling trend, well, you know how exponents work. MVPs and GOAT status incoming.
The other thing that dismayed me while I watched a few minutes of this game was William’s weird afro mullet thing. I’ve never seen one of those before and it has shaken me to the core of my being. Is this a style that’s in fashion now? It it a novel hair concept that Williams is trying to make cool? Or is it just a mistake because Williams never looks at the back of his head? I don’t even want to know the answer. I just want to forget I ever saw it.
