DTB’S FUN NBA FACT OF THE DAY: Max Strus scored 21 points in this game without accumulating any other counting stats. He had no assists, no rebounds, no steals, and no blocks. And here’s the real fun part: 21 is the most any player has scored this season while getting zeroes across the rest of the boxscore. Even more fun factage for you: After Strus on this list is Bryn Forbes with 17, then…Max Strus with 12, and then…Bryn Forbes with 11. Strus and Forbes are dominating this aspect of the NBA, which is good because there’s not many aspects of the NBA in which they could be dominant.
Of course, nobody can forget how TWO players achieved 35-0-0-0-0 statlines last season, Bojan Bogdanovic and Terrence Ross. Those guys are the true GOATS of scoring to the detriment of everything else. But Strus is making headway, and if he continues to not focus on doing anything on the court other than scoring, I think he could hit 35-0-0-0-0 at some point in his career. It won’t be soon, not while he’s playing such a small role on the Heat, but maybe five years down the road when he’s playing for some tanking team as the #3 option. Am I being too optimistic about his career trajectory? Yes, but that’s only because you don’t often see players who are so good at being bad at getting stats.
