Ever since Carlos Delfino and Luis Scola and Manu Ginobili left the NBA, there’s been a void of Argentine players in the league, and that makes me unhappy. Carlos Delfino was the guy whose spicy-hot scoring performances inspired me to start this channel in the first place, so he and his fellow Argentines will always occupy a special place in my heart. Specifically, it’s the place in my heart next to the Pop-Tart frosting deposits which fill 70% of one of my ventricles, according to my doctor. But when there are no Argentines in the league, or the Argentines that are in the league aren’t very good, my heart aches, and that ache is separate from the low-grade heart attack that I am perpetually affliced by due to my Pop-Tart addiction.
I’d give anything to have an Argentine prospect that even had an Andres Nocioni ceiling. Instead, we get 29-year-old rookie Facundo Campazzo, who, let’s just put this out there, doesn’t have the physical profile of a player who will be hugely successful in the NBA. Basketball-reference lists him at 5’10” and I believe them. If he’s going to make an impact, it will be through his sorcerous playmaking ability and his high-effort defense, not his scoring. I’m getting Marcelo Huertas vibes from him, minus the Hobbit lineage, of course.
What happened to Nicolas Brussino, anyway? That guy had the physical profile of a player who could do well in the NBA. He just wasn’t good enough at basketball. You can tell I’m getting desperate here if I’m pining after a guy like Brussino, whose only positive attributes were his height and his Argentine-ness.
