Kent Bazemore started his NBA career on the Warriors, and now he’s back on the Warriors. As the Lion King helpfully teaches us, it’s the circle of life. Except, in this case, it’s more like the circle of scrub.
Bazemore appeared in 61 games for the 2012-13 Warriors and averaged 2 PPG per game for them. There was no inkling, at least from my outsider perspective, that he would become a valuable mid-tier role-player for the Hawks just a few years later. That first season, he was scrubbing it up as the Curry/Thompson/Green era was just beginning. He was down there with Jeremy Tyler, Andris Biedrins, and Charles Jenkins in terms of guys who seemed like they didn’t have much of a future in the league.
Now Bazemore is back in the fold but this Warriors squad probably isn’t even better than that 2012-13 team that featured David Lee as its second-leading scorer. It’s a nice bit of nostalgia for Warriors fans who are waiting patiently for a true return to championship contention before Curry starts declining. And it’s extra nice when Bazemore, who is just a throwback player not meant to do much, manages to contribute to wins in a meaningful way. You just know that Heat fans are losing their minds over the fact that Bazemore single-handedly sent this game to overtime with his two buckets late in the fourth, which happened to be the last two field goals in regulation. He then BURIED them to the tune of four more points in the overtime period.
I guess there’s only one thing to say after watching such a dominating and clutch performance:
“DON’T BAZE ME BRO”
