A quick look at Seth Curry’s career prior to this year would have quickly yielded a clear fact: that he can only play good if he’s on the Dallas Mavericks. He could play okay for other teams, but if you were acquiring him because you really wanted him to be a legit third-or-fourth-ish scoring option, you had to make sure that you were the owner of the Mavericks.
BONUS SETH CURRY CAREER FACT: there was a time when it looked like his NBA was going to come and go with him having only made one shot, for the Cavaliers during the 2013-14 season. Kind reminder that that shot was contained (as an assist) within one of the many Matthew Dellavedova vids I uploaded that season. He has since made 1038 more buckets, but that first one will always be special.
Anyway, yeah, Mavericks equals good for Curry. But there must be something special in the water in Philly (I’m thinking either high quantities of heroin or high quantities of cheesesteak residue), because they have returned Curry back to the player he was in Dallas, even though they themselves are not located in Dallas. He’s averaging a career high in points, on a career high field-goal, three-point, and free-throw (97.5 percent, Jose Calderon is freaking out right now) percentages. COVID? More like BOREVID. Because Curry doesn’t care about global pandemics or their affects; he’s going to show the world that he may not be the superior Curry brother, but he is a seriously SOLID role-player with maybe the potential to maybe be something more. Maybe.
I’m always interested to see what these types of players could do if you gave them the ultimate green light to chuck indiscriminately. There aren’t a ton of teams this year who are actually bad enough to let that happen, so I’ll hold of on suggesting trade destinations right now, but look at someone like Jerami Grant. He was just an okay scorer, and now all of a sudden he’s just chucking and scoring like he’s some sort of star. That could be Curry! And if Curry wants an opportunity like that, he needs to hurry up, because he’s gonna be 31 next year, he’s kinda short, and he doesn’t have too many productive years left remaining in his productivity glands.
