I’m struggling to come up with a white-guy trio that has much chemistry as the Pacers’ white-guy trio of T.J. McConnell (6 PPG), Doug McDermott (13 PPG), and Domantas Sabonis (21 PPG). There are three-man squads of white guys in the league, but they’re not really “trios” with “chemistry”. For example, Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, and Kelly Olynyk are a group of three white players, but none of them has spectacular chemistry with any of the others, as far as I know. At least one player in the group needs to be a playmaking specialist for the “trio” concept to apply. Also, you need to be able to pick out any two of the players in the trio and say to yourself “yeah, those guys play well together”. You can easily do that with the Pacers’ McMcBoner trio.
I feel like we have to go back to the 2017-18 Sacramento Kings to find another white-guy trio who achieved as much success. If you’ve forgotten the Greek Ivory Towers of Kosta Koufos (7 PPG) and Georgios Papagiannis (2 PPG) playing with Bogdan Bogdanovic (12 PPG), you’re not a real NBA fan. You’re a fake NBA fan who pretends to be a real NBA fan by watching scrubs on my channel. Be gone with you, pretender. Be gone!
McConnell isn’t averaging huge stats this season (a tepid six points and six assists), but his numbers are exactly in line with his career averages, so you can’t fault him for much for sticking to what he does best, which is being a reliable, low-volume backup point guard. Can you believe he’s averaged 6 PPG in each of the 6 seasons he’s been in the NBA? Throw in his six assists, and you get 666, which is the number of the frickin’ beast according to esoteric Christian numerology. That makes total sense because McConnell was a frickin’ beast this game. Somebody call the local priest and get some exorcisms going.
