I think I speak for all NBA fans when I say thank you to Taurean Prince for consenting to have his locker take the place of Kevin Porter Jr.’s in the Cavaliers locker room, thereby initiating a cascading chain of events that resulted in KPJ ending up on the Rockets and averaging 18 PPG per game. Without Prince getting traded to Cleveland and immediately taking over KPJ’s space while the latter was away from the team, KPJ would probably still be in Cleveland getting no playing time and slowly rotting away.
Strict adherents to determinism will scoff at the idea of such a “butterfly effect” taking place, but strict adherents to determinism should also note that the existence of people who believe in the “butterfly effect”, as it regards KPJ’s budding NBA career, is, in a deterministic universe, preordained. So scoffing isn’t really necessary. Other than the fact that determinism ensures that you scoff and that you really have no choice in the matter.
It’s definitely too early to start talking about who could be the James Harden replacement in Houston. Such a discussion would be inappropriate at this time. The city of Houston is still healing from the sudden departure of the man-boobed one. But if one were to begin having that forbidden discussion, perhaps that discussion would start with the name Kevin Porter Jr. But such a discussion is premature and we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves.
I wonder if Victor Oladipo is okay with this development. He was supposed to be able to play himself into a big contract by being the only competent scorer on the Rockets. Now this young upstart is threatening Oladipo’s minutes at the shooting guard position. Maybe this Rockets team that is on its way to losing twenty straight games will provide us some more locker room drama in the end.
