Those familiar with DownToBuck highlight video naming conventions will know that they’re in for a treat with this one. Notice the “21 Rebounds” part of the video title? I don’t put stuff in the title unless it’s shown in the vid, so what you get to see here is all 21 of Keldon Johnson’s rebounds. This is a rare occurrence for me, since rebounds are lame and not fun to watch (usually), but this is history here.
If you are one of those dudes who tries to enforce some unwanted (and unneeded, thank you very much) quality control on me, you might notice a few missing. Sorry, my video source janked out on some of the ones he had off of Cavalier missed free throws, but those were lame. You definitely get to see all the times he ran in there and got offensive rebounds just by running in there and seeing if he could hit the ball with his hands. You also get to see the rebound he was credited with where Jakob Poeltl clearly tipped it out right to him. Don’t be surprised if the NBA revises his total down to (buck) 20.
But even if they do that, that doesn’t take away the fact that Johnson had a frickin’ TWENTY-TWENTY game as a chucky midget shooting guard. The last time the Spurs had a 20-20 game from any player was back in the days of Tim Duncan (I wanted to say DeJuan Blair, sadly I decided to be factual this time, but how cool would it have been though for a 6’6″ center lacking knee ligaments to get a 20-20 game, god damn), who is basically a Spurs legend, so I guess you can add Johnson to the list of Spurs legends now.
11 offensive rebounds. Really 10, because of that Poeltl one, but still. Double digit offensive rebounds is a rare sight for any player. This isn’t quite as cool as the time Zaza Pachulia grabbed 18, because there’s hardly anything in the universe as cool as that occurrence, but I think Spurs fans are going to be feeling the lingering hype from this performance for a long time. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a Pachulia video to re-watch.
