T.J. McConnell could lead the league in assists, if he got to play 40 minutes a game on a team filled with elite shooters/scorers while monopolizing the ball in a Harden-esque way.
I guess if I wanted the take to be a little hotter I could remove all those qualifiers and just say straight up “T.J. McConnell could lead the league in assists” like it’s something he could do right now without changing anything about his situation. But while I want my takes to be hot, I don’t want them to be totally stupid and invalid. That’s not even fun. The fun with hot takes is that they are kinda reasonable, sort of.
Meanwhile, a totally mild take would be “T.J. McConnell could lead the league in steals”. Maybe in the past that take would’ve been slightly warm, but these days McConnell is actually leading the league in steals (both total and per game). What a timeline we’re living in.
