Chimezie Metu, as it turns out, is the perfect Richaun Holmes replacement. That much is evident just by watching this game where the Kings lose to the worst team in the league. Blame for the loss lies at the feet of many people, but it does not lie at Metu’s feet, because Metu got a career high in points. Imagine how big of a losing margin the Kings would have suffered had Metu scored more in line with his season average of 4 PPG per game.
Metu doesn’t have the high-caliber floater game that Holmes has, but he has something better: a workable jumpshot that extends out to the deep midrange. I am justified in proclaiming to have this jumpshot in his arsenal because the first bucket he makes in this video is a jumpshot. And it was a jumpshot that Karl Anthony-Towns was unable to play adequate defense on because he looked at Metu, briefly saw a reflection of himself in Metu’s face, and got scared because, in that moment, he became aware of the fundamental truth that him and Metu are basically the same player.
In honor of Metu being able to hit jumpshots, I have decided to give his jumpshots their own nickname “Mezie Midrange Jimbos”. This is a play on the common concept of a “hesi midrange jimbo” (real hoopers know what I’m talking about), but twisted around to make it Metu’s own. My hope is that we will continue to see Mezie Midrange Jimbos in larger quantities for the rest of the season as the Kings come to the sad realization that, once again, they will miss the playoffs and none of their games mean anything. But if Metu just sticks to dunking the heck out of the ball whenever he can, and stops attempting MMJ’s (Mezie Midrange Jimbos), I guess I’m cool with that too.
