The Nuggets’ commentary team has a long history of trying to incorporate phrases from other languages into their broadcast. If there’s a foreign player on the roster, you can bet that you’ll be hearing a catchphrase said in that player’s native tongue. I remember this most clearly with Danilo Gallinari and his time in Denver, but I don’t clearly remember exactly what Italian phrases were uttered, nor do I particularly want to remember what those phrases were.

I guess the thing now is for both commentators to say “Uno, dos, tres, [unintelligible babbling], Paco!!!!” after every three-pointer that Facundo Campazzo makes? I guess it’s sort of cool to pay homage to Campazzo’s home country of Argentina, but when it’s two old white dudes with very limited training in proper Spanish-language pronunciation, it’s also sort of lame. Maybe I’m just turning into a cranky old man who hates fun. But no matter how cranky I get, I don’t think I’ll be even 10% as cranky as Scott Hastings.

Lame catchphrases aside, Campazzo just had his best game as an NBA player, setting a new high in points and getting his second-highest assist total as well. It was his first NBA double-double (presumably he was getting them all the time for Real Madrid), and he was only eights steals away from a triple-double. Or four rebounds away, but can you imagine this guy getting ten rebounds? Six was already a season-high for him, and there’s no way he could have possibly gotten any more than that. He’s too little. Not to mention that JaVale McGee will always be stealing Campazzo’s rebounds on his quest for his own triple-double.
