If Malcolm Brogdon can win ROTY of the Year, why not Tyrese Haliburton? The comparisons are there:

-Both were NBA rookies, which is a requirement for winning ROTY of the Year unless you’re Ben Simmons
-Both were contributing SUPER SOLIDLY to their respective teams’ efforts even if their raw stats weren’t eyepopping
-Both have slightly messed-up shooting forms that are nonetheless very effective

Only differences are that Brogdon was doing his work for a winning team instead of a losing team (though the fact that the Kings suck is absolutely not Haliburton’s fault at all), and that Brogdon was part of a rookie class that had no one with good counting stats. Haliburton is going up against Anthony Edwards (nice stats until you look at stuff outside the basic boxscore ones) and LaMelo Ball (close to getting disqualified due to that injury). Those are two legit candidates right there. If either of them won over Haliburton, that would be okay.

But here’s the deal: the Big Two in Los Angeles of LeBron James and Anthony Davis just got embarrassed by a supposedly “inferior” Big Two of Haliburton and Richaun Holmes. Narrative matters, people. As much as we wish it didn’t, it does, and the narrative now is that Haliburton is better than LeBron and Holmes is better than AD.

And when I look at that narrative and analyze it for factual correctity, I can find no fault with it.
