Chasson “Press X To Chasson” Randle is a player who always seems to show up on new teams when you least expect him. I am perhaps one of the people in the universe who is most enthusiastic about scrubs in the NBA and which rosters they’re currently on, and even I haven’t always had a clear idea of where Randle is at any given time. For all I know, he could be in Sacramento right now trying to put Delon Wright out of a job after getting randomly waived by the Magic. I just don’t know. It wouldn’t surprise me. And if I can’t keep track of Randle’s transaction history, what chance does anybody else have? Maybe he’s got some nuthuggers from Rock Island high school in Illinois, but other than those people (who need to find something better to do with their lives, if they exist at all), nobody can keep up with Randle’s journeyman career. Nobody.

I’m going to continue writing this description under the assumption that Randle is still on the Magic and will be on the Magic for the rest of the season. They’ve got a lot of marginal-quality guards clogging the roster at the moment, and since none has clearly elevated themselves above the rest, they all get to “eat”, so to speak. They just don’t get to eat as much as they would if they had proven themselves to be the only one who deserved to eat anything. I felt like Randle was decent on the Knicks once upon a time, and he’s 27 years old, so I guess that makes him the veteran? Sure, let’s go with that. Chasson Randle is the savvy vet mentoring all the young guys on the team, explaining to them what it’s like to be at the end of the bench and telling them to always keep their chins up. He probably also sneaks in some bad or irrelevant advice from time to time just to increase the chances that he himself gets to have a larger, more consistent role on the team going into next season.

In conclusion, Chasson Randle is better than Royal Ivey and is worse than Ish Smith, but comparisons between him and Eric Maynor are still pending further analysis.
