Desmond Bane was a four-year college player. I just confirmed it by going to his basketball-reference page and gazing at his stats from Texas Christian University (the same college that Thunder superstar/afro-mullet-owner Kenrich Williams played for), but even if I hadn’t confirmed that particular fact, I would have been able to tell you with confidence that Bane was a four-year college player based on the following factors:
OFFICIAL FACTOR #1: Bane was the thirtieth pick in the draft, but was able to contribute for the Grizzlies from day one. Only a four-year college player would be able to pull that off. Some people would say that his high floor means he has a low ceiling, but I would say that you need to please shut up while I’m trying to make my extremely valid and well-thought-out points.
OFFICIAL FACTOR #2: Bane just looks like an older player. He looks poised. He looks mature. He looks READY. Not only in his movements on the court, but in his body structure and the physical characteristics of his face. This is why Malcolm Brogdon was so successful so quickly as a late pick. Dudes who look old get respect from their coaches and teammates that young-looking dudes simply do not. Also, dudes with muscles get respect from everybody because of the implicit threat of the muscly dude beating the pulp out of them.
OFFICIAL FACTOR #3: Desmond is the name of somebody who would attend all four years of college and graduate with a degree. Somebody named Desmond wouldn’t play just one season and then dip for the NBA. Desmonds are more committed than that and Desmonds also aren’t swayed by the big paychecks and lavish lifestyles of NBA players. I wish my name was Desmond, then maybe I would have done something with the last decade of my life other than make highlight videos for YouTube.
