Reggie Bullock was not all that good last season. For being a supposed “three-point specialist”, his three-point percentage of 33.3% (look at all those threes, it’s a message from god) didn’t turn any heads, except the heads of Knicks fans, who were turning their heads to look at the target of their disgust. However, Bullock is now back over 40% from three, and his eFG% has gone up ten points from last season to this season.
Similarly, the Knicks as a whole were not all that good last season. A lot of the main parts are the same (Randle, Barrett, Robinson, Bullock [LOL (lots of laughs)]) but the coaching is different and the whole mindset of the team seems to be different as well. Last year’s Knicks limped their way to 21 wins, while this year’s iteration has 38 wins and a playoff spot.
Obviously, these two things are related. However, I would go so far as to say that Reggie Bullock is the SOLE, SINGULAR REASON for the Knicks’ overall improvement. You might to claim that Julius Randles’ emergence as a true star, or R.J. Barrett’s extreme improvement, or Tom Thibodeau’s strong coaching were contributing factors to this unexpected resurgence of New York basketball, but those claims are false and you should feel bad for claiming them. Bullock is the one propping up the Knicks with his sweet shooting, his staunch defense, and his weird hair tubes that make him look like a wayward alien invader.
