DeAndre’ Bembry just scored 23 points on 22 field goal attempts is this awesome? [y/n]
Honestly, I could go either way on whether or not this is awesome.
In the “Y” camp, Bembry got a career high in points. For a five-year NBA scrub who has never been able to consistently score anything other than piddly amounts of points, a career high is undeniably awesome. It was also awesome that the Raptors gave up on this game so hard that Bembry was allowed to take 23 shots. His previous career high in FGA was fifteen.
In the “N” camp, it is never good for the amount of field goals attempted to be near the amount of point scored. The real killer would be if the equation had been flipped, i.e. Bembry had scored 22 points on 23 FGA. That would undeniably be horrible and undeserving of any kind of recognition. But 23 points on 22 FGA isn’t a whole lot better. It’s dismal enough that I feel slightly dirty making this video, like I’m encouraging the wrong type of behavior from NBA players by rewarding them for being inefficient.
In the end, I’m going with the heretofore undisclosed third option, which is a null value. This performance is neither awesome nor not awesome. It simply is. Just like Bembry simply is an NBA player that exists, no more and no less.
[Editor’s note: I started calling Bembry by the mispronunciation “Bremby” as a joke and now I can’t stop, somebody please help me]
