Kawhi Leonard is out for at least the rest of this series with a sprained ACL. As we speak, teams of the most skilled and respected load managers are descending on Los Angeles in order to help manage Kawhi’s load. But, until Kawhi’s load has been managed by these load management experts, somebody else on the Clippers will need to step up.
Enter Marcus Morris. It’s basically his destiny to morph into a Kawhi-esque scorer right when his team needs him the most. Don’t forget, this dude was basically a 20 PPG per game scorer on the Knicks, and the only reason he’s not still doing that is because he purposely went to a contender knowing that his role would be smaller. Well, now he’s got the best of both worlds: the Clippers are still contenders, and he gets to have a larger role.
Morris doesn’t have the Jordan-esque scoring game of Kawhi, but he does have a nice scoring game. His threes are soaking wet. His midrange is somewhere between “wet” and “damp”. His ISO game is serviceable. He won’t be hosting any poster parties like Kawhi often does, but he won’t say no to a dunk if the opportunity presents itself.
Of course, Morris doesn’t bring the intangibles that Kawhi brings. Things like:
-Defense
-Uncle Dennis
-Robotic personality
-Rings
-Wingstop coupons
-Indubitably
But if Morris brought all those things, he would be a superstar and the Clippers would actually have a “big three” instead of a “big two” and he would have been traded to the Magic for Nikola Vucevic since having three superstar wings on the same team doesn’t make any sense.
