This game seven between the Hawks and the Sixers will probably be most remembered for the chokejob of one Mr. Ben Simmons, henceforth known as Bum Scrubbins. That is, if historians remember this game at all. However, the real hero of this game is and always will be Kevin “Butthuert” Huerter. It’s fun to talk about Bum Scrubbins and his inability to hit free throws and his fear of scoring the ball when there are any defenders in the vicinity, but we should actually be talking about Kevin “Kevin Duerant” Huerter and his domination of Seth Curry and his ability to put the team on his back while Trae Young was having an off night.
Now the Hawks are going to face off against the Bucks (who are coming off their own game seven victory) in the ECF Conference Finals. Honestly, at the season’s outset, there were about nine or ten teams that I would have expected to make the ECF before the Hawks. The Pacers and the Hornets were on the list. Even the Pelicans were on that list because I thought that a random midseason conference realignment that would stick them in the East was more likely than the Hawks actually having a good team this early in their rebuilding process.
Speaking of the process, what do the Sixers do now? They have a co-star for Joel Embiid who shies away from big moments and hasn’t added anything to his game since he came into the league. Now that Bum Scrubbins has been exposed, his trade value has plummeted. Remember when the speculation was that he would be part of a trade package for James Harden? Now the Sixers would be lucky if they could bundle him up in a trade package for old-ass Kyle Lowry. Personally, I would like to see the Bucks trade Thon Maker and Royal Ivey for Mr. Scrubbins, and then pray that Giannis can convince Mr. Scrubbins to actually put in some work to improve himself. Thon Maker can totally be part of The Process 2.0.
