Nighty-night, Clippers. After a blowout game six victory, the Suns proceed to the Finals while their vanquished foes proceed to do whatever it is that teams do after they get eliminated from the playoffs. Do they have a tearful hug session in the locker room and then immediately book separate flights to their preferred vacation destinations? Or do they just stonily sit in the locker room glaring at each other with unspoken blame radiating out in all directions, and then they wordlessly go home to make their vacation plans? The inner workings of NBA teams are endlessly fascinating to me. Especially the teams that lose with finality and disappointment.
Let it be known that none of this is Marcus Morris’ fault. He did everything he could, and more, to take this team to the finals, but in the end, the absence of ring-haver Kawhi Leonard and the presence of terminal loser DeMarcus Cousins was just too much to overcome. Also, having Steve Ballmer on the sidelines doing crazy things and probably screaming nonstop was not helpful.
Now Kawhi is upset that his load isn’t being managed properly and might decline his player option so that he can go to a team that will either 1.) manage his load in the proper manner or 2.) allow him to bring with him his own expert team of load managers, which includes his Uncle Dennis. Kawhi leaving could cause a domino effect where Paul George, who still has a bunch of years and money on his contract, could demand a trade, because we’ve already see that he has no loyalty to anything (not that I necessarily expect NBA players to display loyalty). So, if things go right, Marcus Morris will have his own team next season after all, just like he had with the Knicks. And his second fiddle can be Luke Kennard.
I’m already getting myself hyped for this. Midrange jimbos for days, my friends. And the Clippers winning a maximum of 35 games will function as a restoration of the natural order of things. All will be right with the world.
