This season’s frantic scoring frenzy is even trickling down to the fringiest role-players in the league. Willie Reed’s scored a career-high 22 two games ago, and now had done it again, despite having given no indication whatsoever that he could be a scoring threat in any way. His previous high-water mark before all this happened was 14, and he had only scored in double figures about ten times.
Hassan Whiteside’s reaction at 1:24 about sums this whole thing up. Watching the videos of these 22 point games is a surreal experience. Your eyes tell you that he’s putting the ball in the basket, but your rational mind refuses to believe it.
I feel like I should be more hyped, considering this is a seriously scrubby scrubmeister scoring 22 in 2 out of 3 games, but I just feel stunned. Whiteside is feeling the same, I’m sure, except mixed with concern over his job security. Apparently, any random tall dude can score 20 points on the reg in Spoelstra’s offense.
