Every time I watch the Hawks and I see Malcolm “Not Brogdon” Delaney on the court, I think it’s Mike Scott. Can you really even blame me? They both have the same short hair, the same beard, and the same headband. Scott is five inches taller but the angle they use for TV broadcasts makes everybody look the same height. This is not only confusing, but personally disappointing for me, because Scott barely gets to play and I still think he can be a good player, so everytime Delaney is on the court I think “Yes! Coach Smokes Bud finally remembered that he has a ready-made fourteen PPG scorer rotting away on his bench and is putting him to use!” Nope. It’s just the 27-year-old rookie backup PG with negative win-shares.
Delaney shot well from midrange this game, but if these are the shots he takes on a regular basis, I can see why his shooting has been so poor this year. The sub-20% three-point shooting also remains a mystery to me considering that the three he made in this game looked pretty good. Since this guy is already pretty old and is probably done developing, my guess is that Hawks fans want to ship him back to Europe and sign a backup PG that actually has upside. Feel free to correct my blatantly incorrect notions.
