George Hill needs to do a lot better job playing in desirable media markets. He’s been a solidly solid point guard his whole career, but no one knows his name because of the obscurity of the locales he’s chosen to play in. San Antonio? Indianapolis? Salt Lake City? No offense to the fine denizens of those burgs, but those places are desolate when it comes to national media attention.
Imagine how much we’d hear about George Hill if he was playing for the Lakers right now, putting up the same numbers. Remember, when Ramon Sessions was playing for the Lakers, their fans couldn’t shut up about him. I think his name was even brought up as part of a “big three”. That’s how bad it was. So we know that Lakers fans, and eventually the national media, will hype to heck and above-average player that finds his way to that team.
Hill would probably be in the All-Star game. There. I said it. He’s sacrificing All-Star appearances so that he can do… what, exactly? Put up some numbers in front of a bunch of Mormons? Play with Gordon Hayward? Those are fine reasons, I guess, but he’s gonna be feeling a lot of regret when he retires and everyone forgets about him within the year.
