You like layups? Think that the NCAA had the right idea when they banned players from dunking? Then I’ve got the video for you! Greg Monroe scored 28 points tonight, and he did it by only converting layups or by drawing fouls while shooting layups! Talk about excitement. This is what basketball is all about: shooting it close to the rim, but not so close that you can push it directly through the hoop. George Mikan would be proud, I bet.
Greg Monroe would have more performances like tonight (and thus, more highlights) if he were more adept at converting layups. He gets plenty of chances, but the amount of bunnies he misses must be near tops in the league. He makes up for it in tough finishes, probably, but he could be standing in an empty gym and he’d have the same chance of making it as he would if Rudy Gobert was guarding him.
The Bucks are intent on not starting him, even though John Henson is useless and Miles Plumlee is also useless. I guess if they did start him all the non-useless players would be concentrated in the starting lineup, which isn’t what coaches want. Gotta have at least one person off the bench who is semi-competent, and Monroe is that guy! I don’t even hate him as much as I did last year; all that hate has been redirected onto John Henson for being so soft.
