The Spurs have been great for Davis Bertans’ development. He’s been allowed to get used to the NBA game at his own pace, without any pressure to produce immediately. He gets to learn from the best coaching staff in the league, as well as absorb veteran wisdom from various players. He’s not a finished product yet, but he’s getting there.
With that said, it is time for Spurs to throw away all their hard development work and trade him for a second-round pick. To the Bucks. I have thought long and hard about the situation, and I feel like this is a move that makes the most sense for both parties. The Spurs get to promote Matt Costello to the real roster, and the Bucks get a white Euro shooter to replace Mirza Teletovic and his multitude of clots. It’s what’s known in analytics circles as a “win-win”.
