Marco Belinelli, in this video, continues his trend of only taking tough shots. He got an open one early on, but after that, he had to run off a million screens just to take a crappy jumper. Some would say that’s the hallmark of a good shooter: being so keyed on by defenses that you have to do a lot of work to even attempt a shot. I just got done with a Wayne Ellington video that was the same way. Maybe these guys are better than we think?
He did win the All-Star three-point shootout once upon a time, and he was drafted as a sharpshooter, so it’s not like this is unexpected. Back with the Spurs he had the luxury of wide open looks due to Spursball, but I think this is more fun. Running off screens is something the Bucks simply don’t do, so I love it when other teams show me how it’s done.
It’s a shame that the Hawks lost this one despite Belinelli’s 27 point explosion, but their big three (Ilyasova, Belinelli, Cavanaugh) just isn’t as potent as the Thunder’s. They need another year to gel, I think. Then we’ll see some real magic.
