J.J. Redick is currently averaging a career high in points at 16.8 PPG. He’s also averaging a career high in minutes – it’s only the third time in his career where he’s been a 30-MPG player. I guess I don’t really have a point here, just bringing to light some interesting statistics in the context of Redick’s long, successful career, but since my job is to make points, I’m going to come up with one on the spot:
J.J. Redick was a crucial component of every Clippers team he was a part of, and he’s just as crucial to the Sixers, but now he’s actually getting an amount of minutes which corresponds directly to how necessary he is to the offense. Five more minutes per game doesn’t seem like a whole lot, but that’s almost one-eighth of the entire game. His efficiency has dipped a little bit with the extra scoring load (he wants the whole load, not just a taste), but I’m going to blame his teammates/coach for not knowing exactly how to integrate him into the offense yet. I would rather not have to confront the idea that Redick might be declining physically at the age of 33.
