The Knicks have handed their starting PG gig to Emmanuel Mudiay. Proponents of certain other PGs on the Knicks may be upset, but there is good reason for this: this guy was picked top 10 for a reason, he was a top high school recruit for a reason, and it makes sense for them to try and wring some of that potential out of him. They don’t have anything to lose. If they succeed, he becomes their PG of the future, or at least a competent backup, and if they don’t, well, let’s just say that they won’t be too sad about the games they lost in the process.
I can’t even see the word “process” without thinking about Joel Embiid, by the way. My life continues to spiral downward.
I’m fairy sure at this point that Mudiay is what he is, but he’s only 21 (soon to be 22), so I could be wrong. He hasn’t changed much since he’s gotten to the league by way of China, other than that he supposedly improved his three-point shot. I thought it was a mirage, and maybe I was proven right: he missed his first 13 with the Knicks before finally making a few tonight. If he doesn’t change his current game, that of a inefficient turnover-prone non-shooter, he might find himself back in China sooner rather than later.
And then he can come back like Trey Burke and be a beast for some reason.
