I really love the idea of Doug McDermott. I was led astray by his predraft workout video, but even in a vacuum he just looks like a good NBA player. He looks great until you actually watch him play. His shortcomings soon become very apparent, but you know what, I don’t care. And I bet the Mavericks don’t either. You know the reason.
To be fair to McDermott, he hasn’t had a real chance on a real team that will really take advantage of his strengths. OKC seemed like a good fit, but everyone whose name isn’t Westbrook is gonna find themselves marginalized to one degree or another. Dallas is bad enough to give him minutes, and maybe their system is good enough with Carlisle at the helm that they can get the most out of him. That would be nice. Dougie McBuckets has shown flashes, but a real run of extended above-average play would be a nice touch on an already crazy season.
A man can dream, but this dream isn’t so far off, since he now has two double-digit scoring games in a row!
