I’m not having as much fun with this current Hawks team as I did with last year’s version. That team had Tyler Cavanaugh on it, and he was super fun. Kevin Huerter just isn’t the same. He’s theoretically the same kind of player (the white three-point shooting kind), but I think I just naturally gravitate towards the guys on two-way contracts. Huerter is just a normal rookie, exciting, but not as exciting as a guy on the very fringes of the league.
There are other problems with the current iteration of the Hawks besides them not having Cavanaugh anymore. For one thing, it makes me mad to see Vince Carter toiling away fruitlessly on a team that can’t even promise him a guaranteed ring like the Milwaukee Bucks can. For another, would it kill them to play Tyler Dorsey more? I don’t care how much he sucks, aren’t they supposed to be tanking anyway? Just play him.
A total list of grievances against Atlanta would be a mile long (just one parting shot: their organist is distracting), so let’s get back on track. Huerter! He’s no Cavanaugh, but he’s looking decent out there sometimes. He’s been shooting more threes to try and make up for his lack of production in every other area, and when you do that, you’re bound to end up with games like this. Also, his dunk was pretty good, a decent hammerjob, but not good enough in my opinion for the Pacers bench to jolt back like they just saw something really sick. Like, come on dudes, just because he’s white doesn’t mean you have to act amazed that he dunked.
