Monte Morris has only started two games this season. One was back in November, when he put up a sick eight-point, two-assist line against the Hawks. The other was this game, where he put up a similarly sick line of twenty points, seven assists, and seven rebounds, which is sort of close to a triple-double if you squint hard enough. Twenty points is one off his career-high, seven assists is the second-highest assist total of his career, and seven is a career-high in rebounds.
So, overall, I’d say that this is the best game that Morris has played in his career up to this point. It was so good that it almost makes you think…what if Morris was the full-time starter? Jamal Murray is great, but I’m not sure if I view him as a pure point guard in the same way that Morris is a pure point guard. You could slide Murray up to the two, Harris up to the three, and start Morris at the one. Or, as painful as it would be, you could trade Harris for Bogdan Bogdanovic and get a head start on building the Serbian Superteam in Denver (SSD). Toss in Will Barton and get Nemanja Bjelica too. Those moves don’t quite solve the minutes issues that would still be present, but it would result in more Serbians, which can only be a good thing.
If you can’t tell, I’m just throwing ideas around right now because I’m overreacting to this game by Morris and I want him to get tons of minutes from now on.
