Shai “The Gilge Pump” Gilgeous-Alexander continues to play a solid role for a solid Clippers team. How does the phrase “Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: playoff starter” sound to you? It should sound pretty darn good. I’m reading that phrase and it’s making me happy. Legitimately. I think. Iy could also just be me feeling the affects of the morning sun totally baking my body (whose idea was it to put a window in my highlights cave, every morning now I get frickin’ ROASTED by the cursed glowing life-sphere).
The Clippers, bless Steve Ballmer’s sweaty little heart, really hit a home run with this pick. They must have known they were getting someone good, though, because two picks later they went and reached SUPER far for Jerome Robinson who might never be good. That’s the luxury of having two picks so close to each other. You can pick the sure thing knowing that the random dude you’re wanting to reach for is probably going to still be there so you can wait it out a bit.
I would like to see Gilge take on more of a scoring role at some point this season, but with playoff seeds still in doubt and there being very little time left in the season, I guess I’ll have to wait until next year. It’s great for rookies to be high-quality role players, but I prefer my rookies to be low-quality role players who randomly have 30 point games.
