I’m a little bit worried about Brandon Knight. Are we sure he has somewhere to live right now? Even just a teammate’s floor with blankets piled on it? Because right now he looks like a homeless person with his undone hair and his haphazardly-grown facial hair. He’s also, until the past few games, been playing how I would expect a homeless person would play. Obviously, somebody without a home to go back to would suffer in terms of diet, training regimen, and hygiene. All those things could combine to result in a Brandon Knight situation where he doesn’t play as well as he should be playing.
The more I think about it, the more likely this scenario becomes to me. Knight is totally a hobo right now. It’s obvious. And, give him credit, he doesn’t want to panhandle for money, so he just dumpster-dives for all his meals and sleeps on a bed of cardboard boxes that he put in a disused dumpster. Sometimes other hobos steal his cardboard and he has to sleep on the hard metallic bottom of the dumpster.
The Rockets and Cavaliers both dropped the ball here. When Knight got traded from one team to the other, both of them should have done their due diligence to make sure that Section 8 housing was available near the arena in Cleveland. They could have at least looked into options for local homeless shelters. Now Knight has to fend for himself on the streets, with nobody in the world to take care of him. Shameful. Absolutely shameful. As a country, we need to treat our homeless vets (NBA vets that is) with more respect.
Can’t they just let him sleep in the locker room?
